Edinburgh native Maggie Nicols’ musical history reads like a tour through the evolution of adventurous music of the last half century – early shows with the Spontaneous Music Ensemble and various collaborations through the 70s at that nexus where jazz, free improv and prog rock seemed to meet and mingle, in the UK at least. Interactions with Keith Tippett, Phil Minton and, by the end of that grimy decade, touring Europe with Lindsay Cooper in the Feminist Improvising Group. A discography of collaborations that includes two albums with GIO and meetings with Joelle Leandre, Julie Tippetts, Roger Turner, John Russell and many more.
