With a recording career that has so far seen him play saxes, electronics and traditional Brazilian bowed instrument the rabeca, Swiss national Thomas Rohrer has featured in a small but very diverse range of ensembles including the Brazilian groups Abaetetuba and Interchanges and the Rob Mazurek Octet alongside Nicole Mitchell and Tortoise’s John Herndon. He has a duo project with rabeca master Nelson da Rabeca that combines traditional sounds of North East Brazil with free improvisation and produces music for cinema, theatre and dance. He is also the organiser of a series of free improv events in Sao Paolo, Brazil entitled Sokkyotã.
